Roberto Mancini looking for young players to reinforce Manchester City

Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini has revealed that he is looking for young players as the planning begins for next season's assault on the top four of the Premier League.

City were confirmed in fifth place with a draw at West Ham United on Sunday and Mancini is looking for some fresh faces to boost his squad.

"Now the planning starts because next year we want to improve and if we work well we can do that," he said.

"I will be looking for young players with experience. We want players who will come here and play here for a long time so we can build an important team.

"I am looking forward to building my own team; that is important for a manager."

Mancini also confirmed that he would be looking for versatility as well as youth in potential targets.

"Next season we will be playing four competitions and there will be games every three or four days so it is important that there is flexibility in the squad and important that players can perform in one or two positions,” he added.

As for scouting this summer's World Cup, Mancini felt that there would be few surprises in terms of any players who were likely to come to the fore.

"There may be a player who emerges from the tournament that catches everyone’s eye," he said.

"But I have to say that we know about all the players who are at the World Cup this summer already."

Chelsea will have to pay £15m to land Javi Martinez from Athletic Bilbao

Chelsea are in the hunt for Athletic Bilbao midfielder Javi Martinez but the Basque club will not alllow the player to leave for less than £15 million, according to a report from The Daily Mirror.

Real Madrid are also apparently in the hunt for the 21-year-old, who signed for Bilbao in summer 2006 from Osasuna.

Martinez has also been linked with a move to Liverpool during the course of the last year or so, though nothing concrete has materialised.

The Blues are also apparently interested in Valenica winger Pablo, according to the report.

Everton chasing 1860 Munich youngster Peniel Mlapa

The 19-year-old hitman was playing for FC Unterfohring before the second division side picked him up and ushered him into their youth academy. And after spending ten years learning his trade, the youngster finally broke into the senior squad in 2009.

Now The Daily Mail claims that Toffees boss David Moyes' scouts have watched the teenager in action, and that the manager is happy with the reports from his talent spotters.

It is consequently claimed that the Merseyside club are closing in on a £3 million deal that would see Mlapa switch allegiance to Everton.

Barcelona midfielder Yaya Toure's agent hints at Arsenal summer switch

Barcelona midfielder Yaya Toure has been linked with a move to Arsenal this summer, according to the Ivorian's agent.

The Ivory Coast international's agent, Dimitri Seluk, admitted he couldn't rule out the possibility his client would be heading to the Emirates Stadium, with Gunners chief Arsene Wenger a keen admirer of the combative midfielder's abilities.

"Yaya [Toure] is happy at Barcelona and will only leave for a big project at a big club", Seluk told The People.

"But in England there are sides with great prestige and that could be decisive.

"Arsene Wenger knows Yaya, and I am convinced he could be a success with Arsenal."

The Catalans giant have made no secret of their desire to bring their youth product Cesc Fabregas back to the Nou Camp, but Wenger has consistently rebuffed any advances for his stellar performer and captain.

However, it remains to be seen whether Toure will play a part in persuading the Frenchman to part with his most prized asset.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic returning to Juventus is ‘not impossible’ according to agent

Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s representative has welcomed speculation linking the Barcelona striker with a sensational return to Serie A giants Juventus.

The 28-year-old Swedish international left Juve in 2006 after the club’s demotion to Serie B, in the wake of the Calciopoli scandal.

However, Ibrahimovic has failed to impress in La Liga this term following his big-money move from Inter last summer.

Such an off colour season has generated reports that Juve might launch an audacious bid to re-sign the mercurial sharp-shooter this summer.

“It’s normal that Juve [Juventus] want a big signing to revamp the club,” agent Mino Raiola told Tuttosport.

“And Zlatan [Ibrahimovic] is one of the strongest players in the world.

“For me, nothing is impossible in life. If anything, I like to turn what might seem impossible into possible.”

Yet Raiola then set the record straight, indicating his client has not considering jumping ship from the La Liga leaaders.

“Despite what everyone is saying, Zlatan loves it in Barcelona and will be there for a long time," he added.

“Zlatan was never offloaded. It was always him who decided to leave and chose his next destination.

“So, when he leaves, it will be his choice.”
